Lori Lustrin Appointed to Executive Board of the Special Olympics

Kaye & Bender to Educate Community on Recent Cooperative, Condominium and Homeowner Association Law Changes

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – The Dan Marino Foundation has once again teamed up with local South Florida autism agencies to celebrate the Dan Marino Foundation WalkAbout Autism, benefiting the Autism Societies of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, UM-NSU CARD (Center for Autism & Related Disabilities) and the Dan Marino Foundation. . This exciting and unique event will take place on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 from 10 am to 2 pm at Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.

Driven by individuals with autism, their families and friends, this historic fundraising effort generates crucial funds for the autism community of South Florida. Corporate sponsorships are available, and corporate teams are encouraged to join the fun. All proceeds raised through this event will stay in our local community and benefit autism services, and awareness. Participating South Florida schools will receive 25% of the money raised by their teams to support special needs programming in their school. Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder. According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 110 children in the United States have autism.

“As parents of children with autism, my wife Rachel and I are thrilled to be a part of the Dan Marino Foundation WalkAbout Autism,” noted Jeff Ireland, General Manager of the Miami Dolphins. “We know first hand the importance of support services for children and adults with autism and this event will raise money specifically for those services right here in South Florida. Carlton Fields Shareholder Benjamine Reid Appointed Co-Chair of ABA Legal Services Committee

Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell's Founding Partner, Thom Rumberger, Passes Away

ORLANDO, Fla. - E. Thom Rumberger, a legal titan and staunch protector of Florida's Everglades, died Wednesday, September 7 during the evening hours at a Tallahassee hospice facility. He was 79-years-old.

The death, following complications from diabetes, was confirmed by Frank Sheppard, managing partner of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, "We were deeply saddened to hear that our friend and partner, Thom Rumberger, passed away.  Throughout his life he served as an inspiration to all who knew him."

While Mr. Rumberger was known for his brilliant achievements in the courtroom and his leadership in building one of Florida's leading product liability law firms, it was his passion for preserving Florida's Everglades and his efforts on behalf of educational and political reforms that shape his legacy.

Mindy A. Mora Appointed Chair of Florida Bar, Business Law Section

Miami, FL  Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP announced that Mindy Mora, a senior partner in the firm's Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group, has begun her term as Chair of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar.  In this capacity, she oversees all substantive law, member benefit and pro bono committees of the Business Law Section, and is responsible for appointing all of the chairs and vice-chairs of these committees.  She also represents the interests of the more than 5,000 business lawyers throughout the State of Florida in matters involving The Florida Bar.

Colson Hicks' Julie Braman Kane elected parliamentarian of American Association for Justice

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Aug. 30, 2011) – Colson Hicks Eidson partner Julie Braman Kane has been elected as parliamentarian of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the world’s largest trial bar, at the organization’s annual convention.

Colson Hicks Eidson has a long history with the AAJ (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America); the firm’s co-founder, Bill Colson, served as president of the association   from 1964-1965 and partner, Lewis S. “Mike” Eidson, served as president from 2006-2007.

Robin Taylor Symons Appointed Co-Managing Partner of Gordon & Rees’ Miami Office

MIAMI ---- Robin Taylor Symons has been appointed co-managing partner of Gordon & Rees’ Miami office. She will share the responsibility with current managing partner Robert M. Mayer.

Symons is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment and Insurance practice groups. Her experience includes complex insurance coverage and employment-related disputes and trials. Additionally, she provides management-side legal counsel and advice to employers, and has served as counsel to the local state court on diversity training. She also developed and runs the subscriber interface of “the workplace HELPLINE®,” a national computer-based employment law hotline providing assistance to businesses and specialty groups.
