Miami, FL – Land Use & Government Relations Practice Group Leader, Albert E. Dotson, Jr., was selected as an Honoree for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Scholarship Breakfast. Mr. Dotson serves as the National Chairman of 100 Black Men of America. Due to his nationwide fundraising efforts, he was honored with this recognition.
Mr. Dotson regularly represents clients in matters involving federal and local government procurement contracts and compliance. He has been called upon numerous times to negotiate economic development incentive programs with local governments and redevelopment agencies on behalf of major U.S. corporations.
Active in the community, Mr. Dotson participates in civic and charitable organizations throughout the country. The 100 Black Men of America organization is one of the most prominent African American organizations nationwide. In 2009, he was appointed to serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission of Florida, a position to which he was reappointed earlier this year by Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio. In addition, he serves as a trustee of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, a board member of the Alonzo Mourning Charities, and a member of the Orange Bowl Committee. Previously, he has served as Chairman of the Miami-Dade College Foundation Board of Trustees and the Overtown Youth Center Board of Directors.
The 5000 Role Models of Excellence project was initiated by the Miami-Dade County School Board in March 1993, due to the crisis in the lives of many young males. The project’s mission is to intervene in the lives of at-risk boys, in order to provide them with alternatives that will lead them away from a life of crime and violence. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence continues to fulfill its mission of guiding minority boys along a chartered path to manhood and sending them to college.
