Garrett Pendleton Joins Band Weintraub to Lead Litigation

Sarasota, FL. - Trial Attorney Garrett L. Pendleton has joined the law firm of Band Weintraub to build and lead a full-service civil litigation department.  A rapidly rising attorney who is dually licensed in both Florida and Georgia, Pendleton has worked on myriad high-stakes cases while at Phelps Dunbar, LLP in Tampa and Alston + Bird, LLP in Atlanta. Pendleton moved from Atlanta to join the firm on August 1.

“Garrett and I have been friends since we were law school classmates. During this short time, I’ve watched Garrett work for some of the most prestigious law firms in the country,” says Shareholder Anne Weintraub. “He is extremely bright, savvy in business and the consummate superstar. I know Garrett and his family will be a wonderful addition to this region.”

Pendleton attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on the GI Bill following four years of active-duty service in the United States Marine Corps.  At Embry-Riddle, he attained a B.S. degree in Professional Aeronautics, magna cum laude, and trained as a pilot.  He graduated cum laude from Stetson University’s J.D/M.B.A program in 2004.  During his final year in law school, Pendleton served as a federal judicial intern and was selected as Stetson University College of Law’s liaison in the office of Judge Elizabeth Kovachevich of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in Tampa.

Following his graduation from Stetson, Pendleton joined Phelps Dunbar in Tampa.  He rose quickly within the firm, serving as lead attorney in a number of complex commercial litigation and insurance defense cases. At Alston + Bird in Atlanta, Pendleton represented numerous Fortune 500, private individual and institutional clients in federal and state courts from coast to coast.

Given his military and aviation industry background, Pendleton maintains a special interest in aviation. He was appointed by the President of the Florida Bar to the Bar’s Standing Aviation Law Committee, is Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s Aviation and Space Law Committee, and serves as Program Chairman for this year’s NTSB Bar Association’s Blue Angels Air & Transportation Law Conference.  Pendleton is one of 22 attorneys in the U.S. to have been selected to participate in an intensive ABA Leadership Academy this year, which he completed in Toronto earlier this month.

At Band Weintraub, he will lead a broad-based civil litigation department that will manage the firm’s real estate, complex commercial, business and insurance disputes. For more information about Band Weintraub, visit http://www.bandweintraub.com
