MICHAEL POPOK & MITCHELL BURNSTEIN NAMED PARTNERS-IN-CHARGE AT WEISS SEROTA

Attorneys Michael S. Popok and Mitchell J. Burnstein, members with Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske, were named partners-in-charge of the Miami-Dade office and the Broward office, respectively. In these positions, Popok and Burnstein will be responsible for overseeing the operations and day-to-day management in each office, which house 35 and 25 attorneys, each. They will work with the attorneys and staff to maintain smooth flow of business and provide leadership, as well as support for process improvement.

Jamie Cole, continues his role as managing director of the firm, focusing on new strategic initiatives and broad-based business development.

Popok, who had previously served as chair of the litigation practice, has extensive experience in commercial, real estate, construction and municipal/ governmental litigation. He is on the Board of Directors for the Dade County Bar Association, where he chairs the Diversity Advisory Committee. His successful advocacy on behalf of his clients for almost 20 years has resulted in numerous reported federal and state court decisions. He was recently named to the firm’s five-member Executive Committee,

A member of the Bars of Florida and New York, Popok is also active in The Florida Bar. He is a member of the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Popok graduated from New York University, Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude, earning his B.A., and he earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law.

Mitch Burnstein handles real property litigation matters for the Firm, specializing in eminent domain, inverse condemnation, constitutional takings, and all aspects of private property rights litigation. He established the Firm’s Eminent Domain and Private Property Rights Practice Group in 2001, and represents regional and local condemnor clients, private property owners, businesses, title companies, and institutional lenders.

Mr. Burnstein is an AV-rated lawyer and has served as lead counsel in more than 80 jury trials in state and federal courts during his career. He has served as an expert witness in eminent domain cases, and is an author and lecturer on takings issues. Mr. Burnstein graduated from Emory University and earned his JD at the University of Florida College of Law.
