Gerald F. Richman is The Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year

Gerald F. Richman
Gerald F. Richman, president of the commercial litigation and business law firm Richman Greer in Miami and West Palm Beach, has received the 2012 Justice Harry Lee Anstead Award for The Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year.

Florida Bar board certified lawyers have demonstrated ability and experience in their fields and professionalism within the legal community, and are the only Florida lawyers who may use the terms “specialist,” “expert” or “B.C.S.” for Board Certified Specialist when referring to their legal credentials. The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education created the Anstead award in 2005 to recognize “exemplary professionalism and excellence in the practice of law and character and commitment to The Florida Bar's certification program.” The BLSE annually presents the award to a Florida Bar board certified lawyer or judge.

Richman is dually board certified in business litigation and civil trial. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation with emphasis on antitrust, securities, contract, construction, federal agency, corporate, banking, civil RICO, professional liability, consumer, employment, civil rights, probate litigation and class action issues, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
Board of Legal Specialization & Education Chair Tim Sullivan of Tampa presented the award on June 21 in Orlando at the BLSE's Florida Bar annual convention reception sponsored by Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company.

“Gerald has been described as a superb mentor with incredible energy, dedication and integrity,” said Sullivan. “For many he has helped to instill a love of the law and the importance of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety. Gerald is an uncommon lawyer who represents the best in our profession through his extensive service, his exemplary leadership, and his commitment to the high standards that board certification represents.”

Sullivan during the presentation quoted the lawyer who nominated Richman, and said, “Gerald Richman is very proud to be a trial lawyer and throughout his career has sought to uphold and further the highest ideals of our profession in the courtroom and through service to the Bar and the public.”
Richman, a 1984 Florida Bar president, is well known for community service. In 2011, Richman won the National Masters in Trial Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Richman was specifically recognized for his efforts promoting jury trials worldwide, advancing the legal profession and his contributions to the non-profit organization on a national and local level spanning the last 23 years. In 2010, as Co-Chair of the International Issues Committee of ABOTA, he planned and participated in a jury trial demonstration in South Korea and Japan and spoke on the topic of Professional Ethics at ABA seminars in both countries. He also conducted mock jury trials in Latvia as well in 2006. In 2011, he also received the Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee of Palm Beach County, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the community, legal excellence and career accomplishments.

Currently, Richman is Chairman of the Fourth District Court of Appeal Nominating Commission, member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, Executive Committee of the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission and is past President of the Palm Beach chapter of ABOTA.

Richman Greer partner Alan Greer, who accepted the award on Richman’s behalf, was named Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year in 2008. Richman Greer is the only law firm in the award’s history to have two recipients named from the same firm.
