Gabriel F. Zambrano Joins Farmer Jaffe Weissing

Gabriel F. Zambrano
Fort Lauderdale, FL – Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman, P.L, is pleased to announce that Gabriel F. Zambrano has joined their Fort Lauderdale based consumer justice law firm.

Zambrano will advocate on behalf of victims of personal injuries, assist consumers seeking justice, develop mass tort projects where patients suffer injuries from drugs or pharmaceutical devices, as well as ongoing mass tort proceedings.

Zambrano is licensed, and based out of the State of Florida where he has practiced for nearly two decades.

Zambrano has gained national prominence as an early, and tireless, advocate on behalf of girls and women that suffered life altering blood clots, strokes or heart damage from use of the Blockbuster DROSPIRENONE (DRSP) containing birth control pills trademarked and manufactured by BAYER HEALTHCARE PHARMACEUTICALS: YASMIN, YAZ, BEYAZ & SAFYRAL. He is considered, and has remained, a key opinion leader on the litigation and is Lead Counsel or Co-Counsel for several women among the 1st 100 YAZ Lawsuits filed in the ongoing Multi-District Litigation (MDL) and coordinated State Mass Tort Proceedings. He presented at several National conferences and conventions at the early onset of the litigation in a concerted effort to help his clients begin on their path to justice. By personal court appointment, he has been an active member of the MDL Discovery Committee, and been selected by other leaders of the litigation to conduct deposition(s) of BAYER Corporate Representatives by State Liaison Counsel on behalf of coordinated Mass Torts Proceedings in the YAZ MDL. He also participated in some final preparations surrounding the 1st scheduled YAZ Bellwether Trial which was postponed while the parties explored settlement negotiations. The YAZ litigation is actively ongoing with published reports of nearly 12,000 lawsuits pending as of April 2012. BLOOMBERG/Reuters has estimated in published reports that the girls and women who have been injured from use of a DROSPIRENONE (DRSP) containing birth control pill will collectively be awarded nearly $2.65 Billion U.S. Dollars.

Despite talks of settlement, he has continued to offer free case evaluations to girls and women that have suffered potentially compensable injuries from the time the pills were approved for use in the United States in 2001, through the present day use of generic equivalents that included the trademarked GIANVI, OCELLA and ZARAH. In his opinion, the pills should be recalled. “Knowing everything, I know, I believe the pills should be recalled. They narrowly escaped a recall in December 2011, at FDA Advisory Committee hearings, during a controversial vote, and the final chapter on their legacy has yet to be written.” As a result, he has continued to sponsor and provide updated information via YAZRecall.com (http://www.YAZRecall.com) regarding updated scientific studies, and an FDA funded study, that have repeatedly confirmed the pills present a higher risk of blood clots in comparison to other birth control pills.

“I personally witnessed the genesis of the YAZ litigation with his first national presentation. The passion and emotion he brought to the subject remain with me to this day. I know he will bring the same passion and determination to projects moving forward.” Partner Gary M. Farmer, Jr., President-Elect of the Florida Justice Association adds, “Gabe and I had been opposing counsel in a multi-million dollar case nearly a decade ago. At the time, I knew he was as formidable and as well prepared an adversary as you would encounter anywhere. At this point, he is a seasoned and tested advocate, totally committed to causes he takes on, that will add depth and breadth to our practice areas.”

Zambrano and the firm are presently accepting and investigating cases involving PRADAXA (DABIGATRAN ETEXILATE), a FDA blood thinner approved in 2010 that has been linked by FDA data to over 542 U.S. deaths in 2011 and drawn scrutiny from public health authorities in Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. PRADAXA bleeding cases literally involve patients bleeding to death because there is no antidote or quick reversal agent for the blood thinning effects of DABIGATRAN. Similarly, the firm is actively evaluating NUVARING VAGINAL RING LAWSUITS. These hormone releasing contraceptive rings have been linked to fatal blood clots, strokes, pulmonary emboli and deep vein thrombosis. A recently released study from May 2012 draws comparisons to their being as risky, or riskier, than the DROSPIRENONE (DRSP) containing birth control pills involved in the YAZ litigation.

Zambrano continues to speak at National conferences, local organizational meetings and is available to aid victims across the United States through co-counsel relationships in multiple jurisdictions. He explains that his determined passion for victims and families comes from his personal experiences as a naturalized American Citizen and First Generation American Immigrant. “I know how hard people have to work to get ahead and pursue their version of the American Dream. To have an accident, drug or defective product, derail your future is life altering and our civil justice system provides a potential remedy and methods for holding companies and people accountable. Trial Attorneys’ and experienced advocates are the only way to level the playing field against insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, or manufacturers.”
