Mayanne Downs has joined the Orlando office of GrayRobinson, P.A. as co-chair of the firm’s Complex Litigation Section


Mayanne Downs has joined the Orlando office of GrayRobinson, P.A. as co-chair of the firm’s Complex Litigation Section. With 25 years of legal experience, Downs focuses her practice on a broad range of civil litigation, including commercial litigation, appellate law and high-stakes-domestic matters.

The Orlando native has handled a wide array of legal matters throughout her career including eminent-domain litigation and trials, personal-injury cases, shareholder and business disputes, statutory shareholder-valuation matters, non-compete litigation, legal malpractice defense, state and federal appellate matters and family and domestic matters involving high net worth and high-profile individuals.

As the City Attorney of Orlando, Downs has provided advice to the mayor and city council since 2007, and played an integral role in the negotiations of the venues, including the Amway Center and new performing arts center. She served as the former president of The Florida Bar in 2010-11, as only the 4th woman president of the 90,000+ organization, and also served as president of the Orange County Bar Association, the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers and as a member of the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar and the ABA House of Delegates.

The AV-rated attorney has achieved a peer-based reputation for excellence in both legal management and advocacy and has been recognized by Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, Florida Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and Orlando Magazine’sBest Lawyers. She was also nominated to the governor by the Judicial Nominating Commission for appointment to Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal.

Downs is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals 11th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

She received both her juris doctorate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida.  Downs graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Florida Law School, serving in two senior editorial positions on the law review, the Chancellor of the Student Honor Court, and a member of Florida Blue Key. She was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame, and Order of the Coif.
