Carlton Fields announced that Miami Shareholder Steven J. Brodie was recently installed as President of the University of Miami (UM) Citizens Board. Brodie will serve a one-year term and will serve on UM’s Board of Trustees.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve as president of the Citizens Board as we work towards creating awareness about the University of Miami and the very positive impact it has on our community,” Brodie said.
Established in 1946, the Citizens Board is a select group of more than 500 business, professional, and civic leaders who actively support the University's philanthropic efforts and promote UM programs. Since its inception, the Citizens Board has raised more than $347 million for the University and advanced 87 Citizens Board members to its Board of Trustees. Of this year's current UM Trustees, 24 are former or active Citizens Board members.
Brodie is a commercial litigator in state and federal courts. His practice includes civil litigation with a focus on insurance, business disputes, and general commercial issues. He also has extensive experience in insurance-related litigation including coverage, defense, and regulatory matters. Brodie's commercial litigation experience includes employment, intellectual property, antitrust, and regulatory matters among other types of complex commercial disputes. He also serves as outside general counsel for several companies. He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami and his undergraduate degree with high honors from Tulane University.
