Broad and Cassel Hires Six Attorneys in South Florida

SOUTH FLORIDA; March 29, 2011 – Florida law firm Broad and Cassel is pleased to announce the addition of six attorneys to its South Florida offices:

Carlos Townsend Picó has facilitated the establishment of several international businesses in the State of Florida, the State of Delaware and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He has served as legal counsel to one of the largest global payments technology companies, as well as having previously practiced at a large, international law firm and one of Puerto Rico's top law firms. He is fluent Spanish and has been instrumental in negotiating and drafting legal documents for clients that conduct business in Latin America and the Caribbean (including Puerto Rico). He is a graduate of Tufts University and received his juris doctor from Fordham University School of Law in New York.

Victoria M. Beatty began her career in public interest law as a housing attorney, where she litigated landlord-tenant cases, public agency hearings and bankruptcies and foreclosures. Since then, she has worked for a large firm in Fort Lauderdale, and has handled a plethora of business litigation matters from multi-million dollar foreclosures and a defamation suit to bond closings and insurance defense. She is a graduate of Spelman College and received her juris doctor from Howard University School of Law.

Michelle T. Bell is a skilled litigation attorney with a strong background in state and federal courts and experience in diverse areas of law including tort and contract claims, health care law, managed care defense, medical malpractice, commercial litigation and ERISA litigation. She is a graduate of the University of Florida where she received her Bachelor of Science and Master in Business Administration degrees . She received her juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. Bell is a member of The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association. She also has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kingdom Vision Project, Inc.

Salo Kozolchyk is well versed in a variety of products liability casework. In his previous position as a tort attorney, he handled commercial and products liability matters involving, among other things, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, fungicides, and fire and security systems. He also managed local litigated efforts on behalf of a Fortune 50 company. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and received his juris doctor from Washington University St. Louis.

Shachi Mankodi brings extensive healthcare policy experience to the firm. She has served the State of Florida in various capacities, most recently as Assistant General Counsel to the Executive Office of the Governor and as Health and Human Services Policy Chief. She served as the Governor’s representative at National Governors Association meetings regarding national healthcare reform implementation. Ms. Mankodi is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and received her juris doctor from the Florida State College of Law.

Elizabeth Perez is an experienced litigator with a background in health care and criminal law. She began her career as an assistant public defender before transitioning into private practice, where she focused on health law, while collar criminal defense and commercial litigation.  She has brought more than 50 trials to verdict and has handled multi-million dollar cases involving insurance companies and managed care providers. A graduate of Leadership Miami, Perez is a member of the Cuban American Bar Association, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and American Health Lawyer’s Association. She is a graduate of Florida State University (FSU) and received her juris doctor from FSU’s College of Law.
