MIAMI – March 10, 2011 - A team of students from Stetson University College of Law won the regional 2011 American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition at the University of Miami School of Law.  The team of Julian Catala, Brooke Geiger, Erika Wilson and Chris Hamilton will advance to the national finals on March 31 in Las Vegas, Nev. Each member of the winning team also received a scholarship in the amount of $2000 presented by the Melvin M. Belli Society

"AAJ's mock trial cases focus on civil cases and tend to deal with products liability, personal injury, or medical malpractice/negligence issues," said Spencer Aronfeld of Aronfeld Trial Lawyers in Coral Gables, Fla. who served as the Regional Coordinator. "The teams were judged on their skills in case preparation, opening statements, use of facts, the examination of lay and expert witnesses, and closing arguments."

Sixteen teams from Florida and Georgia schools of law participated.

AAJ seeks to inspire excellence in trial advocacy through training and education for both law students and practicing attorneys. The association accomplishes this goal in part by sponsoring the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition, an annual nationwide mock trial competition. The competition is an exceptional opportunity for law students to develop and practice their trial advocacy skills before distinguished members of the bar and bench.
