Fowler White Boggs Partner with Jim and Nancy Humphrey in $100,000 Gift

Fort Myers, FL – Lee Memorial Health System Foundation announces that it has received an outstanding gift of $100,000 from the law office Fowler White Boggs and Jim and Nancy Humphrey.  Fowler White Boggs, with offices in Tampa, Fort Myers, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale serves as legal counsel for the Board of Directors of Lee Memorial Health System and Jim Humphrey is a shareholder at the firm.

Lee Memorial Health System Foundation is currently reaching out to the Southwest Florida community for philanthropic support in the building of a new six-story, 148-bed Children’s Hospital to be located on the grounds of HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida.  The new state-of-the-art facility will provide for the increased pediatric health care needs of the Southwest Florida community and will provide additional specialty services to treat the most critically-ill children and their families.
The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida receives no direct tax support and treats all children regardless of their families’ ability to pay for care.  Fowler White Boggs has generously stepped forward in response to corporate philanthropy outreach by Lee Memorial Health System Foundation.

Former Mayor of Fort Myers and long-time historical preservation activist, Jim Humphrey has been recently appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission by former Governor Charlie Crist.  Mr. Humphrey’s appointment runs for a term beginning October 05, 2010, and ending July 1, 2014.
LMHS President Jim Nathan said of the gift, “Children’s Hospitals across our nation are dependent on philanthropic support from the communities they serve.  We are deeply grateful to Fowler White Boggs and Jim and Nancy Humphrey for sharing in our passion of excellence in pediatric care and for stepping forward with this generous gift.  Through their loving support we are working together to build this incredible new life-saving facility for children … America’s Newest Children’s Hospital!”
LMHS Chief Foundation Officer Sharon A. MacDonald added, “While serving as a Mayor of the great City of Fort Myers, Jim Humphrey was very active in preserving history. We thank him for helping us to now make history through the lives we will save and the children we are able to keep close to home for care.”
“I’m celebrating over twenty years of having the honor to represent the Board of Directors of Lee Memorial Health System,” said Jim Humphrey.  “Through those years, I’ve had many opportunities to observe the quality of care that Lee Memorial provides.  My grandchildren were born at Lee Memorial.  It is my hope that this combined gift with Fowler White Boggs will become part of a lasting legacy for our children and their care.”
“Fowler White Boggs is pleased to participate in the funding and support of such a critical component of comprehensive health care services in Southwest Florida,” added Fowler White Boggs President C. Joseph Coleman.  “We recognize the need to provide the finest health services for our children and families.  This donation is very personal for many of us at Fowler White Boggs as our children have been born and received excellent services at Lee Memorial.”
The gift will be recognized in the new facility, scheduled to open in 2016, via the naming of a parent lounge.  The parent lounge will provide respite for parents while the child is receiving treatment and care.
A formal announcement of the gift and a check presentation took place at the Lee Memorial Health System Public Board Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 4:00PM at Lee Memorial Hospital located at 2776 Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers.
