COMMUNITY EVENTS

Young Lawyers Section Seeks Attorney Volunteers for Reading Project

Starting in January 2011, the PBC Bar's Young Lawyers Section will be involved in a new Reading is Fundamental project, sponsored by the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, at Washington Elementary School in Rivera Beach.  The project will involve book distributions and readings at Washington Elementary, currently scheduled for January, March and May of 2011.  At this time, we are seeking attorney volunteers for the first reading in January -- on January 19th and 20th, 2011.  On January 19th, volunteers are needed for Kindergarten, First and Second grade classes.  OnJanuary 20th, volunteers are needed for Third, Fourth and Fifth grade classes. There are a total of 17 classes between Kindergarten and Fifth grade, and we would like to have at least 17 volunteers, so that we can have one attorney read to each class.  To the extent we do not have enough attorney volunteers, the children will still receive books on the scheduled distribution days, but they will not have anyone read to them (except for perhaps their teacher).

The school is flexible regarding the time of the readings, and we were planning on doing the readings during the lunch hour, in order to maximize the number of volunteers.  If you are interested and available to volunteer during the lunch hour on either January 19thand 20th, please contact Jason Lazarus by email (jason.lazarus@hklaw.com) or phone (561-650-8311).

Thank you for helping us make this project a success!
